The Great Crane Project

The Great Crane Project is a partnership between the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, RSPB and Pensthorpe Conservation Trust, with major funding from Viridor Credits Environmental Company. The partnerships aim is to restore healthy populations of wild cranes throughout the UK, so that people can once again experience these beautiful birds.
Popokatea designed and developed the site using Drupal as the CMS. The first phase of the site launched in late April 2010 and shares the story of the project as it unfolds with a mix of blogs and media. Phase 2 of the project will be online later in the year aiming to enable wider participation from site users with a wide range of interactive features.
UK Fundraising
UK Fundraising aims to improve the effectiveness of charity and non-profit fundraisers with the provision of news, blogs and a vibrant forum community and acts as a leader in the UK with it's provision of fundraising information and resources.
They had an outdated Drupal site and Popokatea modernised the site along with a new custom designed theme improving usability and accessibility and introduced a range of new features on the site.
Transition Network
Working with a small team of 'Transition Technologists', each with a key role in developing the new site, Popokatea's role was the front end developer to enable the new site to act as a hub of news, information and profiles for activity and connectivity of Transition Towns worldwide.
A custom Drupal theme was designed and developed for the project and a sub-theme for the organic groups functionality.
Kids Who Care
Kids Who Care supports and works with children and young people from across Mid Devon, up to the age of 18 who look after or support parents, relatives or siblings with care needs.
Kids Who Care approached Popokatea to build them a new website. Popokatea worked in consultation with the young people and the team to design and develop the new site for them to be able to share their work and provide information services online.
Totnes Caring
Totnes Caring provides a wide range of services to help support local people. They were in need of a modern website and new branding to reflect their services and the work of their volunteers.
Popokatea designed a new identity and developed a website using Wordpress to enable staff and volunteers to update their news and pages easily.
Navcaboodle
NAVCA is the national voice of local third sector infrastructure in England. They aim to ensure communities are well served by the local third sector by supporting their members and their work with over 160,000 local groups and organisations.
To develop effective networking and collaborative work further for its members, Popokatea provided consultancy, support and designed a custom theme using Ning as the web platform, to enable a wide range of thematic groups and discussions; and delivered training for the group leaders on how to build and manage their online community.
Regional Voices
A new website for Regional Voices, a network of nine regional organisations who champion the engagement of the voluntary and community sector in regional policy and strategy. They develop and support the contribution of the sector to regional progress and raise awareness and understanding of the sector’s roles.
The network needed a website to pull together the activity of the nine networks and enable them to have a national voice. Wordpress was used as the CMS, and custom theming included enhanced accessibility functionality, unobtrusive javascript and jQuery, custom widget creation, with user-friendly options panels and features for administrators of the site.
Where I Live - Barnet

A website for a Barnet Council partnership project. Popokatea created a new custom Drupal CMS theme, customised modules and delivered an overhaul of it's information architecture and content to enable the site to be more usable and engaging for its audience. The Where I Live project project partners include London Borough of Barnet Council, Metropolitan Police and the Barnet Safer Communities Partnership Board.
The bright and lively site with custom illustration and graphics, integrates a wide variety of social media and uses forums to aim for maximum audience participation, so that users of the site can share their views, pictures and videos of their area.
The Old Apothecary House Bed & Breakfast
A website redesign for a Bed and Breakfast small business located in Brittany, France. Popokatea created the original website a few years ago, the new site offers a fresh calming feel to reflect the accomodation and services offered, providing an enhanced user experience for visitors to the site.
The site is built with Wordpress so that the owners can easily update the site conent themselves, adding their own information and images.
CVS South Gloucestershire
A website for a CVS South Gloucestershire, an infrastructure support charity which provides a wide range of services and information for local groups and organisations. The site includes a custom searchable directory of their members, enables registered users to submit their news and events for inclusion on the site and aims to be fully accessible for all users. Designed and developed using WordPress as a CMS.

Elsua.net
A new design and overhaul of information architecture for popular renowned blogger Luis Suarez, who writes about knowledge management. Built for WordPress, the customised theme incorporates a variety of special features including enhanced comment views for readers of the site along with many other features to enable site visitors to have a better user experience.

Volunteer Centres Devon
A website for Volunteer Centres Devon, an active network of Volunteer Centres. This project was to enable a consistent voice and 'one-stop shop' for the network of Volunteer Centres, as well as information on how to find out more about volunteering and to promote the 'Count Me In' Project, of which Popokatea also created the branding and print design for promotional materials including certificates and a rage of flyers for use in publications, retail environments and on local buses. Designed and developed with MODx as the CMS framework.

Travellers in Time
A website for Travellers in Time. This project was for a small business client who needed a website mainly for use by schools to find out more about the wide range of educational historical activity days and guided tours being offered.
UK Circuit Riders
Branding project for the UK Circuit Riders, which are technology and support advisers/consultants for voluntary and community nonprofit organisations. The branding is now used on various websites and publicity, and also has been regionalised so that individual Circuit Riders across the UK can use the logo as a badge on their website to show their support for the principles of supporting organisations with their technology needs. Can be seen in use on the circuit riders section of the LASA website and the ukriders.info networking website.
The Potters Hand Foundation
A website for the the Potters Hand Foundation. This project was for a client in America who needed a website to share the stories of the work of the foundation which exists to help support children in South and Central America, and the Caribbean.
Devon Association of CVS (DACVS)
A website for the partnership of 8 CVS in Devon. Included logo and branding design, multi-recipient form processing for a specific project section. This site uses MODx which allows for easy updating of the content and adding of news by the members of the partnership.
South Hams CVS and Volunteer Centre
A website for South Hams CVS, who provide advice and support to local voluntary and community organisations. Included forms for contacts and online reservations for training. Designed and developed with MODx as the CMS framework.
